Sam Allardyce is a man of many layers.

A football man, relegation escape artist for hire and managerial genius – according to himself anyway.

And, judging by these comments, he’s also a defender of good old fashioned British values. He isn’t prepared for any ‘soft’ foreigners to come over to England and tell him how to bloody well play football.

The Sunderland manager responded to Jurgen Klopp’s claims that Jeremain Lens should’ve received a red card for his challenge on Mamadou Sakho in the most Allardyce manner imaginable.GettyImages-502932346Lens clattered into the Liverpool defender at pace during the away side’s 1-0 victory at The Stadium of Light, and earned a yellow card.

When asked it the punishment should’ve been stronger, Klopp said: “Of course. This is a foul. That is not allowed. For me that is a red card, finished.”

However, Klopp’s just a “soft German”, according to his Sunderland counterpart.

“If he thinks that’s a red card, then he’s a soft German. It’s a yellow, a foul.”

Never change.
