Sam Allardyce not happy with Everton’s media team following Gylfi Sigurdsson update

You wouldn't like him when he's angry

Nobody at Everton wants to be called into Sam Allardyce’s office.

Allardyce is a franchisee of Sir Alex Ferguson’s patented hairdryer treatment and you definitely don’t want to catch him on a bad day.

While Big Sam often gets wound up from the dugout, when decisions don’t go his way or when his players fail to give 100 per cent, it’s rare that we see him lash out at his own staff.

Allardyce has not taken kindly to Everton’s initial assessment of the injury picked up by Gylfi Sigurdsson on Saturday.

In a statement issued on the club’s official website, it was claimed that the Iceland international would be out of action for between six and eight weeks but Allardyce has taken umbrage with that timeline.

Responding to the update, the Toffees boss claimed that Sigurdsson could return much sooner than Everton’s media team projected.

“Somebody gave out the wrong statement. It can be less than that, so whoever gave out that statement is going to get a bollocking today,” Allardyce said.

“So well done, whoever gave that one out you’ve just got a right telling off because you cannot predict a length of injury in its entirety because you have people who heal quicker and we have a highly qualified medical staff and equipment to try and speed up any injury.

“I’ve always felt it the wrong thing to do to tag an injury on its time limits because people recover quicker than others.

“Gylfi’s motivation is obviously to get back playing for us and then playing for Iceland at the World Cup.”
