Salah, Suarez or Torres? Steven Gerrard picks his favourite forward

What do Liverpool fans think?

Steven Gerrard had some cracking attacking players in front of him during his time as Liverpool captain.

Gerrard had quite the rapport with Fernando Torres while he came closest to a Premier League title when Luis Suarez led the Reds line.

One can only wonder what Gerrard would have been able to accomplish with Mohamed Salah as an attacking outlet and, ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League Round of 16 second leg clash with Porto, the 37-year-old made his pick for his preferred forward out of the three.

“Fernando had a great phase at Liverpool but Suarez did it for longer,” Gerrard told BT Sport. “And I believe if he was at Liverpool now he would still be hitting a 30 goal return.

“He also did an awful lot more away from the goals as well, assisting goals and the work rate he used to put in for the team. So for me, I’ll be biased towards Suarez.

“But if Salah goes on to continue to be consistent over a number of years and add silverware, that would give him an advantage over Torres and Suarez because they never won much.”

Having scored 32 goals already this season, Salah is just one off the most that Torres ever registered in a single season at Liverpool while the Egyptian has already eclipsed the 30 and 31 that Suarez netted in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons respectively.

Explaining how Klopp has managed to turn Salah into such a prolific goalscorer, Gerrard had the following to say:

“First and foremost, Klopp has him closer to the goal. We analysed him at the weekend, going into the Newcastle game and he’s receiving the ball a lot more in the opposition area.

“He makes great runs through central areas, in between full backs and central defenders.

“And when he gets in, he’s so confident at the moment and he’s so relaxed in front of goal. He’s finding the net all the time.

“You wondered at the beginning if it was just a phase and would he have a dip in form but he just seems to be getting better and better which is fantastic for Liverpool fans.”
