Giggs is back in action

Ryan Giggs has landed his first job in football, two years on from stepping down as Wales manager.

Giggs has been appointed as the new director of football at League Two side Salford City, the club he co-owns alongside David Beckham, Gary Neville and other members of the ‘class of 92’.

The 50-year-old will work alongside manager Karl Robinson as they aim to turn the club’s season around and avoid relegation to the National League.

Salford are currently 20th in League Two and have undergone plenty of change this season, including Nicky Butt replacing Neville as the Ammies’ CEO.

Giggs back in football

This is Giggs’ first role in football since leaving his role as the manager of Wales June 2022 after he was forced to step aside following charges for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

A conclusion was unable to be reached by the jury in the first trial and last year, the Crown Prosecution Service abandoned the charges ahead of a planned retrial after the prosecutor said they were formally offering no evidence.

The former Manchester United winger has always maintained his innocence.

Giggs wants managerial return

Last month Giggs admitted that he would like to return to the dugout in the future.

Speaking to an audience at Chester’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, he said: “I loved managing Wales, obviously. I do miss it so hopefully (I can manage again).”

During his 25 games in charge of Wales, the 50-year-old won 12 and lost eight while leading them to the last 16 of Euro 2020.

He also had a spell as interim manager at Man United, taking over for four games.
