Rugby star dresses up as president’s wife to announce new contract

French Top 14 rugby club Bordeaux-Begles announced the signing of star full-back Nans Ducuing by having him dress as the president's wife

Whatever happened to just sitting down at a desk with a pen and paper?

One of France’s top rugby clubs have announced a new contract for a star player in one of the strangest ways possible.

Bordeaux-Begles today announced that full-back Nans Ducuing had signed a new, three-year deal with the Top 14 club. But this announcement was not your typical club statement.

Interview with a club legend, like Arsenal did with Aubameyang? No.

Shnazzy Instagram graphic? Not that either.

Ducuing was instead dressed up as the club president’s wife.

At least you can’t doubt the player’s commitment to the cause. Bordeaux club president Laurent Marti looks delighted to be tying the knot with Ducuing, or at least tying him down to the club for another three years.

The player certainly looks happy, too – and not just with the news of his new contract.

Bordeaux defeated Edinburgh 23-14 on Saturday in the European Rugby Challenge Cup, to make it through to the semi-finals. They go up against Bristol Bears on Friday, live on BT Sport.

Bristol made swift work of the Dragons in the quarter-finals, so it’s all set for a lively encounter at Ashton Gate.

France’s Top 14 recently got underway again for the 2020/21 season. Bordeaux currently sit in eighth place, but they’ve only played one game. They beat CA Brive 25-20.

Ducuing joined Bordeaux from Perpignan in 2015. He has made 87 appearances in total for the club, scoring 85 points in the process.

He has played for France on four occasions, and was part of the squad that toured South Africa in 2017.

Lately, there have also been some strange signing announcements in the football world, too. Veteran Portuguese winger Ricardo Quaresma recently joined Vitoria Guimaraes, in what seems to be the 685345th club of his career.

He did it by riding horseback out of a castle while wearing a Vitoria jersey. As you do.
