Lukaku won't retire at United

Romelu Lukaku will not see out his career at Manchester United.

Granted, he is just 24 years old and has a solid decade of football left in him but Lukaku wants to return to a former haunt before he hangs up his boots.

Having moved to Old Trafford for a whopping £75 million in the summer, Lukaku has put together a solid ratio of 19 goals in 37 games for the Red Devils.

The Belgium international has already spent time at several clubs and he remains hopeful of bringing his career full circle by returning to his boyhood side before he retires.

In an interview with HLN, Lukaku admitted that he is looking forward to a second spell at Anderlecht, having scored 41 goals in 98 appearances for the Belgian First Division side as a teenager.

“My dream was always to play for Anderlecht,” Lukaku said.

“Before the end of my career I will definitely return, I can already promise that. I had a wonderful time there.”

While Lukaku’s goal return can’t be questioned, he has struggled at points since his big-money move to United.

The powerful forward can find himself isolated at times, despite the quality possessed by supporting attackers such as Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness has identified a potential solution for Jose Mourinho’s side which he feels would get the best out of Lukaku.

“It is paramount for Mourinho that he gets his midfield right,” Souness wrote in the Sunday Times.

“United need a better mix there to keep the ball better, make them better to watch and more threatening, with better quality into their strikers.

“They need a craftsman such as Eriksen at Tottenham.

“Romelu Lukaku has faced some criticism, but he’s not getting chances on his plate. He could do with an Eriksen-type doing that for him. United are crying out for a clever passer.”
