Roma fans are planning to boycott what could be Francesco Totti’s last Rome derby

Roma legend Francesco Totti might not be getting the send off his iconic status deserves at this weekend’s Rome derby.

Totti has played for the Serie A club for his entire senior career, making his debut as a 16-year-old in 1993, but his final meeting with bitter rivals Lazio may be overshadowed by fans’ plans to boycott the match.

Roma travel to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday with an 18-point lead over their rivals. But their third place standing in the current table has not been enough to quell the discontent brewing among the club’s ultras.

Added security at Roma’s home games has been met with protest by some of the club’s most hardcore fans, who have taken particular issue with the decision to use barriers to divide the traditionally ultra-dominated Curva Sud for safety reason.

While the call for the boycott is being made by the away fans, low ticket sales so far indicate that some Lazio supporters may give the game a miss too.
