Robin van Persie is set to make a return to his old club Feyenoord this January, according to reports in the Netherlands.

The striker began his professional career at the Rotterdam club after he joined their youth team as a 16-year-old. He scored 22 appearances in 78 games for Feyenoord, earning himself a move to Arsenal where he stayed for eight seasons.

The Dutchman struggled with injuries but exploded in his last two seasons at the Emirates, scoring 30 league goals in his last year as a Gunner. His legendary status at Arsenal vanished as he moved for just £20m to Manchester United late in the summer of 2012.

His time at Old Trafford was short but sweet. Brought to Old Trafford by Sir Alex Ferguson, he helped Manchester United secure their 20th league title, creating a formidable partnership with Wayne Rooney.

During the past couple of seasons, he has been plying his trade for Fernerbahçe in Turkey, but fancies a move back to his native Netherlands.

His career is set to come full circle as he returns to the city of his birth to play for Feyenoord and try to help the champions qualify for the Champions League. Feyenoord currently sit fifth, 14 points behind league leaders PSV Eindhoven.
