Robin van Persie gives encouraging update after suffering gruesome eye injury

Nasty...

Robin van Persie suffered a gruesome looking eye injury on Sunday afternoon.

The Fenerbahce collided with Abdulwahid Sissoko during his side’s 3-1 win over Akhisar Belediyespor, and had to be stretchered from the pitch.

Van Persie suffered a torn eyelid, and television pictures captured blood coming from the striker’s eye as he left the field and waited for an ambulance.

He’s the incident which led to the injury:

Van Persie, who scored the opening goal in the game before suffering the injury just before half-time, was then photographed and filmed lying on a stretcher, waiting for an ambulance, with his eye heavily bandaged.

However, despite the injury appearing horrific, the former Manchester United man Monday provided an encouraging update, confirming that while his eyelid is torn, the eye is “undamaged”.

The 33-year-old has scored four goals in eight league games in Turkey this season.

He also scored a few weeks ago against Manchester United, his old team, at Old Trafford and received a standing ovation from the crowd.
