Robbie Savage close to tears after his son scores his first professional goal

“My boy has scored! My boy”

Robbie Savage was visibly emotional after his son Charlie scored his first professional goal on Saturday.

Savage, who was working as a pundit on BT Sport Score cheered as the on-loan Manchester United midfielder scored to put Forest Green Rovers 1-0 up against Bristol Rovers.

“My boy has scored! My boy!” Savage exclaimed.

“It’s emotional, man. It’s class. After all he’s been through you know.”

Charlie made his first-team debut for United in 2021, replacing Juan Mata as a substitute in a Champions League fixture, but hasn’t featured since.

He’s been at the club since he was a child and signed his first professional contract with the club in April, 2021 at the age of 17.

Robbie was also a product of the United academy and was a part of the famous ‘Class of 92’ side that went on to win the FA Youth Cup.

Unfortunately for Savage he wasn’t quite as fortunate as his son and never made a senior appearance for the Red Devils before leaving and going on to play for the likes of Leicester City, Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers.

Despite giving Forest Green the lead, Charlie and the rest of the squad couldn’t hold on as Bristol Rovers fought back to score three goals with no reply and condemn Rovers to a defeat.

Forest Green are now bottom of the table and are 12 points behind 20th-placed Accrington Stanley.

The 19-year-old joined the League One club in January and has made five appearances for Duncan Ferguson’s side so far.
