That time Anthony Joshua broke a punching machine with Troy Deeney

Punching machines’ days don’t come much worse than when they see a boxer approach their start button.

But when the boxer in question is the proud owner of a perfect professional record of 19 wins with each victory coming by way of knockout, that’s pretty much rock-bottom.

What better week than this to remind fight fans of the terrifying power possessed by Anthony Joshua?

Joshua will be hoping to land his thudding right as cleanly on the jaw of opponent Carlos Takam at the Principality Stadium as he once did on an unfortunate punch-o-meter.

Born and bred in Watford, Joshua just so happens to be close friends with Hornets captain Troy Deeney, who also tried his hand at breaking the power record.

Joshua was always the favourite in that particular match-up, though, and after an admirable first effort, ‘AJ’ went on to literally break the machine.

Whether Joshua can find a home for that dangerous right on Saturday night in his title defence against a late stand-in remains to be seen but, thankfully, we don’t have long to wait.
