Referee attacked after showing red card as brawl breaks out in non-league match

Dorking Wanderers reserves' game vs Epsom and Ewell was abandoned after a player for the away side attacked the referee after being shown a red card

A brawl broke out during Dorking Wanderers’ clash with Epsom & Ewell on Monday afternoon after an away player attacked the referee and opposition players in response to being shown a red card.

The match had to be abandoned after the fracas, with the home side Dorking earning themselves a 3-0 win.

The video below shows the away player’s reaction to being given his marching orders. Fans in the stands can be heard saying how he had ‘only been on the pitch five minutes.’

Epsom & Ewell’s number 12 can be seen pushing the referee and home players before swinging punches at other players as they attempted to defuse the situation.

Epsom & Ewell have since released a statement, confirming the player in question has been released from the club with immediate effect.

Dorking Wanderers’ first team currently play in the National League South, in the sixth tier of English football. Founded by Marc White after he grew disinterested with following Wimbledon FC, the club achieved 11 promotions in 19 completed seasons.
