The third man in the Octagon has come in for some criticism recently

Herb Dean won’t get the opportunity to lie low for very long.

Dean has been picked to share the Octagon with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor in what many consider to be the biggest fight in mixed martial arts history.

The veteran official was slammed last week for his late stoppage of the middleweight clash between Khalid Murtazaliev and CB Dollaway at UFC Moscow.

Dean allowed Dolloway to absorb a sustained beating at the hands of Murtazaliev, despite cries from the commentators to wave the fight off, and only called an end to the contest when Dolloway couldn’t make it to his stool at the end of the round.

But Dean won’t be out of the limelight for long because he will have the world watching him in the main event of UFC 229 next week.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed the officials who will take charge of Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor at a meeting on Tuesday.

Dean will be paid $1900 for the fight, while the three judges – Derek Cleary, Sal D’Amato and Junichiro Kamijo – will receive a fee of $1600 each.

The committee unanimously agreed on the selection for the main event, which takes place at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena on October 6.
