Raygun, the Australian breakdancer who went viral during the Paris 2024 Olympics, has challenged her critics in a new competition which could see winners take home $10k.
Raygun, whose real name is Rachael Gunn, became the subject of ridicule after her unique performance at the Olympics scored her zero points with the judges.
Gunn, who is a university lecturer, was dressed in a tracksuit and pulled off signature moves like the kangaroo hop and slithered around the floor like a snake but her creative approach to the competition didn’t impress judges.
Following a lengthy holiday in Europe, Raygun has returned and is seemingly enjoying her new found fame as she throws down the gauntlet to her critics.
Taking to Instagram, the 37-year-old, dressed in an oversized white tee shirt and denim shirt, baggy pants and a black bucket hat, challenged her followers in a new video.
She said: “I've heard some of you think you can do better. Really?”
She cracks her knuckles before launching into some of her famous moves, “Let’s find out,” she says.
At the end of the video she is seen laughing as details of the competition appear on screen.
Raygun has teamed up with finder.com.au for the promotion.
The winning solo dancer could take home a whopping $5k in prize money, with $10k being awarded to the best dance crew.
Recently Raygun appeared on the cover of Australia’s Stellar Magazine where she had swapped her green and gold tracksuit for an electric blue dress with flared sleeves.
The headline reads: “What Raygun did next?” alongside a quote from the interview which says: “You did not bring me down. You did not succeed. I will stand by what I did.”
Despite many online mocking the 37-year-old, including a host of famous faces such as Jimmy Fallon, she returned from Paris to be named the No.1 breakdancer in the world.
People across Australia have also celebrated the unlikely hero by honouring her with their Halloween decorations!
So… do you think you can do better than Raygun?
