Rangers set to announce Steven Gerrard and two new players with Premier League experience

Rangers are getting set for a serious assault on the Scottish Premiership next season

Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard could be reunited, on at least four occasions, next season. The former Liverpool manager and captain may well be facing off against each other as respective bosses of Rangers and Celtic. Speculation has been mounting that Rangers would be looking to bring Gerrard in as a permanent replacement for Pedro Caixinha ever since the former Reds star was pictured in attendance at an Old Firm match last month. That talk ramped up when Gers chairman Dave King showed up at Anfield, where Gerrard was working as a BT Sport pundit, for Liverpool's Champions League match against Roma. https://twitter.com/SportsJOE_UK/status/988881520919183363 Gerrard retired from football in 2016 and has taken up a role as coach of the Liverpool U18s side. In an interview with the club's official YouTube channel last year, Gerrard spoke about taking his young Liverpool side up to Scotland for a visit.

"I’ll never forget when I'm invited to Ibrox, it's an iconic stadium. I've got a lot of respect for this football club and it's history and tradition - and that's the reason why we took the invitation up. I had to take the opportunity to bring my team up to experience playing in front of that stadium, just being in the surroundings, in the dressing room - it's a wonderful place."

The story has progressed to the point where seasoned Scottish football writer Andy Devlin has claimed 'a deal is close with director of football Mark Allen leading the Ibrox delegation'. Rangers are also at work on securing the transfers of two players with Premier League experience. Allan McGregor is set for a return to Ibrox, from Hull City, while Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield is also said to be making the move. Rangers are currently second in the Scottish Premiership but are 10 points back from Brendan Rodgers' Celtic, the champions.
