Rangers announce Mark Warburton has resigned… even though Mark Warburton doesn’t know he’s resigned.

Wait, what?

Ah, the end of an era at Ibrox. Or is it?

A tweet from the club on Friday night confirmed that Mark Warburton, the man that returned Rangers to the Scottish top flight, has resigned along with assistant David Weir and head of recruitment Frank McParland.

The club even released a statement, which detailed how the trio had made known their intentions to leave the club, which currently sit a slender 27 points adrift of table-topping Celtic.

Given that it has reached the stage where a statement and the above tweet have been released, you’d think that was the end of matters, wouldn’t you? Well, not quite.

Within minutes of the news breaking, a tweet from the BBC’s Chris McLaughlin told a different story. Presumably having spoken to Warburton, the tweet made clear that (this next bit sounds weird) Warburton was unaware that he’d decided to resign.

Understandably, this prompted plenty of confusion amongst Rangers supporters.

Rangers welcome Morton to Ibrox on Sunday for the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. As of yet, we have no idea if Mark Warburton will be in the home dugout.
