Aaron Ramsdale defends celebrating Bruno Fernandes’ missed penalty

'It was good sh**housery, but I think it got blown out of proportion'

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has admitted his celebration in front of Bruno Fernandes was 'good sh**housery', but that it was blown out of proportion by pundits and fans. The Red Devils had the opportunity to level proceedings when the Gunners led 2-1 at the Emirates at the end of last month, but Fernandes' penalty struck the post, much to the delight of Ramsdale. The England shot-stopper jumped into the air before being mobbed by his teammates right in front of the gutted Fernandes, with many people drawing comparisons to former Arsenal defender Martin Keown in the process. Ramsdale the 'sh**house'

It is not the first time that Ramsdale has been called a 'sh**house' during his career, with the former Sheffield United and Bournemouth man often getting involved in back-and-forth banter with opposition supporters. Ramsdale told That Peter Crouch Podcast: "It was good sh**housery, but I think it got blown out of proportion because there was five or six Arsenal players in front of me so I celebrated with them.

"It looked like it, I probably had that a bit in my head then stopped halfway, but it's just emotion.

"Nothing to do with him or to do with the football club or anything like that. It was just pure emotion."

Ramsdale speaks about his other 'interactions' with fans

The goalkeeper - who signed for the Gunners for £24million last summer - continued his new found role as Arsenal's chief wind up merchant as he annoyed Chelsea fans behind the goal during their win at Stamford Bridge in April. Arsenal secured a 4-2 victory over Thomas Tuchel's men, with Saka scoring a late penalty to seal an important win on the road. With the away side leading 3-2 at the time, and having just won a penalty, Saka confidently dispatched from 12 yards to seal the three points for Arteta's side. As he watched his teammate kill the game off, Ramsdale turned round to face Chelsea fans, who were unsurprisingly left angered by the performance from Chelsea, and waved at them. "I find it quite funny how other players or fans can do what they want to goalies who stand there on their own for 90 minutes getting abused," Ramsdale added.

"I waved at a Chelsea fan the other week, who was giving me all sorts in the second-half, so when we scored the penalty I waved at him and security guard said, "why did you do that? Was it necessary?" I said, "you've listened to everything he said, he has called me every name under the sun, but I can't simply wave. It's enjoyment for me."
