Too good to be true
Ricardo Quaresma’s goal for Portugal against Iran on Monday night was special. With the outside of his right boot, the 34-year-old curled the ball home from outside the area to give his side the lead shortly before half-time.
Over the half-time break, one particular image claiming to capture the moment Quaresma struck the ball was widely circulated across social media, receiving thousands of retweets in the process. Sadly, it’s since been proven to be from Portugal’s opening game of the tournament – their 3-3 draw with Spain.
Quaresma does feature in the bird’s-eye photo, although it’s now become clear it was taken by Jewel Samad during the game between the Iberian neighbours in Sochi’s Fisht Stadium a week ago on Friday.
Shame.
Portugal drew 3-3 against Spain that night, Cristiano Ronaldo’s late hat-trick sealing free-kick enough to secure a draw for the European Champions.
Ronaldo was again on target during their second game against Morocco, his strike the only one of the game.
