Punter turns £5 into over £1,000 with ridiculous back-to-back hat-trick bets

This was inspired.

Tom Victor

Sometimes you just have a hunch.

That’s the only explanation we can think of for this punter making more than a grand on two very specific bets.

Everton fan Liam Fitzpatrick was so confident of victory over Sunderland – and so confident that Romelu Lukaku would end his goalscoring drought – that he backed the 3-0 win with the Belgian scoring a hat-trick.

He requested odds from Sky Bet for that particular wager and was offered 300/1, earning him £900 from his £3 stake.

Now, call it riding a hot streak or just another moment of incredible foresight, but Fitzpatrick then decided to bet on another hat-trick – this time in the Champions League.

Sky Bet gave him odds of 125/1 on Sergio Agüero scoring three against Borussia Mönchengladbach and Manchester City beating the Germans 4-0. The Argentine was well-rested after missing the Manchester Derby through suspension, and was coming off the back of a good goalscoring record already this season, but even so it’s quite the prediction.

He only stuck £2 on that one – perhaps he was less confident, or maybe he was just less emotionally invested when the Toffees weren’t involved – but it came in too to leave him with a profit of £1,150 for the two bets.

The odds of both bets coming in is a whopping 39,725/1. That’s roughly the equivalent of (at the time of writing) FC Copenhagen winning this year’s Champions League and Kelechi Iheanacho finishing the tournament as top scorer.

Sky Bet have told JOE the amount they have lost from other people backing Fitzpatrick’s requested bets has crossed the £500,000 mark.

People have already begun asking him for betting advice after the last two successes, and it’s hardly a surprise.
