Didn’t really make any blunders. Solid enough.
Darmian – 6
Was poor on the night after an encouraging start to his United career.
Smalling – 8
Some positive runs forward and was defending on his own at times.
Blind – 5
Decent start but was poor when asked to fill in at left-back.
Shaw – 8
Was excellent before his suspected leg break. Horrendously cruel.
Schweinsteiger – 8
United’s best midfielder, but seemed to tire towards the end of the game.
Herrera – 7
Did okay, but seemed inhibited with Mata taking up his usual space.
Young – 7
Not quite his exuberant self. Was lively without being a huge threat.
Mata – 6
A big chance to impress in a central position. He didn’t take it.
Memphis – 8
Looked dangerous and scored the opener with a fine effort.
Martial – 8
Impressive full debut. Excellent close-control and a great outlet. Distribution needs a little work.
Subs:
Rojo – 5
Looked understandably rusty, but didn’t do Smalling any favours.
Fellaini – 3
He made United a poorer side. A night to forget.
Valencia – 2
Made Fellaini look good.
