PSG sporting director admits signing Kylian Mbappé and Neymar was a mistake

A very expensive mistake in that case

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Luís Campos has admitted that the decision to sign Kylian Mbappé and Neymar in recent transfer windows was a mistake.

Mbappé and Neymar’s relationship has been well documented with the pair seemingly unwilling to see eye to eye with each other.

The two also argued on the pitch during their win against Montpellier last month after Neymar refused to let Mbappé take a penalty after the Frenchman missed from 12 yards earlier in the game.

Reports also suggested that Mbappé isn’t against the club selling Neymar and believes that the Brazil international shouldn’t be in the side at all.

The French side invested heavily in signing the duo, breaking the world record transfer fee to sign Neymar and spending over £150m to secure Mbappé’s signature.

Both have had a big impact at the Parc Des Princes, with Neymar scoring 111 goals in 155 games for Christophe Galtier’s side while Mbappé has 181 goals in 226 appearances

But Campos, who joined the Ligue 1 champions in the summer, admitted that PSG shouldn’t have signed both players.

Speaking on the Rothen s’enflamme podcast, he said: “We made the mistake in the past of recruiting two players in the same position.

“The transfer window is not good because we lack players in key positions and because we have an overlap of players in other positions.”

Campos had been linked with the sporting director role at Chelsea as they look to find a new long-term appointment, with co-owner Todd Boehly currently acting as the Blues’ interim sporting director.
