Premier League youngster Dele Alli gets his first senior England call-up

Tom Victor

If you speak to any Spurs fan, they’ll tell you Dele Alli has been one of the club’s stand-out performers this season.

The 19-year-old, who came through at MK Dons and was part of the side that embarrassed Manchester United 4-0 last season, has hit the ground running at White Hart Lane.

Few expected him to be a regular, but an early-season injury to Christian Eriksen gave Alli his chance and he has kept his place ever since and scored his first goal for Spurs in the 1-1 Premier League draw at Leicester.

Danny Ings of Liverpool is also in the squad but Alli’s club team-mate Eric Dier misses out on a senior call-up, taking his place in the Under-21 squad for the qualifying game against Kazakhstan.

England have already sealed qualification for Euro 2016, but Roy Hodgson’s team will have a role to play in determining who joins them in  France – opponents Lithuania and Estonia are still very much in the hunt for a place in the play-offs.
