Premier League clubs pay tribute to Diego Maradona

Premier League clubs have joined the footballing world in mourning the passing of Argentine icon Diego Maradona, who passed away aged 60 on Wednesday

Diego Maradona has tragically passed away at the age of 60 from a cardiac arrest.

The Argentine was an footballing icon who brought joy to fans around the world with his flamboyant style of play and infectious charisma.

Though Maradona never played football in England, famously saying he would never come here to play because he’d rather train in the afternoon, Premier League clubs have paid tribute to the great after his passing.

Chelsea’s official Twitter account posted: “A genius of his art. A master of our game. One of the all-time greats. Rest in peace, Diego Maradona.”

Liverpool’s account put: “A true great of the game. Rest in peace Diego Maradona.”

Man City paid tribute to Maradona – the former father in law of City star Sergio Aguero – saying: We’re joining the footballing world in saying farewell to one of the absolute greats. RIP Diego Maradona.”

Their local rivals United posted a photo of Maradona playing for Barcelona against United, writing: “Football has lost one of its greatest icons. Rest in peace, Diego Maradona.”

Everton called him “one of the very best to grace our game.”

Tottenham, who Maradona represented in Osvaldo Ardiles’ testimonial game, posted: “One of the greatest to ever grace our beautiful game.”

Crystal Palace retweeted the Argentina national team’s tribute, adding: “One of the greats of our game. Rest in peace, Diego.”

Wolves posted: “Farewell to one of the all-time greats of the game.”
