The boxer was reportedly involved in a car crash on Monday

Nigerian police have issued an important update, detailing the condition that British boxer Anthony Joshua is currently in, after he was involved in a car crash on Monday.

News reports from Monday morning indicated that Joshua’s vehicle, a Lexus, was reported to have been involved in a collision with another car, while investigations are ongoing regarding the circumstances of the crash.

The accident is reported to have occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

According to reports by eyewitnesses who helped at the scene, the 36-year-old British heavyweight has suffered minor injuries, but two other individuals have died as a result of the accident.

These reports seem to have been confirmed by Nigeria's Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and in statements from officials within the Nigerian police force.

Per Sky News, a police spokesperson said: "Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt.

"Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries."

Lanre Ogunlowo, the police commissioner for Ogun State, has also been reported by the outlet to have said: "Anthony Joshua is in an undisclosed hospital being treated for his injuries."

FRSC Statement:

Their statement reads: "The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) wishes to confirm a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today Monday, 29 December 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State, involving a Lexus Jeep conveying world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, and a stationary truck."

"A total of five adult males were involved in the crash.

"The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD) was duly notified for further investigation and necessary documentation.

"The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention, while the remains of the deceased were conveyed to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu.

"To this end, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed on behalf of the entire Management and staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured victim, Anthony Joshua, a speedy recovery."

Joshua has been celebrating his win over Jake Paul in their heavyweight match earlier in December.

The police update comes after Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn also made a statement.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Hearn said: "I am away on a family holiday and awoke to the news of this incident.

“We are trying to contact Anthony and in the meantime we don’t want to speculate on how he is but thankfully he appears OK from what I have seen in the images.

“We are awaiting more information on what has happened and will update in due course."

Joshua recorded a brilliant sixth round knockout victory over Jake Paul in December's Miami clash, his first fight in 14 months.
