Paul Pogba says Man United ‘didn’t care’ about his feelings in documentary

Simon Lloyd

‘Players have to feel important in their clubs. If you don’t have that, it’s over.’

Paul Pogba is seen accusing Manchester United of not caring about his feelings during the opening minutes of his new Amazon Prime documentary series.

The ‘Pogmentary’ – no, really – became available for streaming on Friday morning. In the first of five episodes, Pogba is shown last year, at his house with lawyer, Rafaela Pimenta. The pair are holding a video call with Pogba’s agent, the late Mino Raiola.

It quickly becomes clear Pogba is unhappy at United and, with his contract entering its final year, considering a move away from Old Trafford.

Pogba says United ‘didn’t care’

Discussing his future, Raiola tells Pogba that United “absolutely” want to keep him, highlighting his commercial worth to the club.

Pogba is then shown on his own, talking about his future to camera.

“It’s all for the players,” he says . “They have to feel important in their clubs. And they have to feel important in their teams. If you don’t have that, it’s over.”

Cutting back to his conversation with Pimenta and Raiola, Pogba is asked what makes him happy.

“To be in a project that I’m involved,” he replies. “Here, I came back from injury, they didn’t help me, they didn’t care how I was feeling so I had to go to the national team to get my confidence back.”

Pogba rejected ‘nothing’ contract offer

Though the series has only been released on Friday, some of its details have emerged earlier in the week.

Later in the series, Pogba is seen receiving word from Raiola of a new contract offer from United, thought to be worth more than the £290,000-a-week deal he has been on over the last few years. Pogba then dismisses the offer as “nothing”.

“They’re bluffing,” Pogba replies. “How can you tell a player you absolutely want him and offer him nothing? Never seen that.”

United have already confirmed Pogba will leave the club this summer having failed to agree a renewal deal. He is widely expected to join Juventus for a second spell with the Serie A club.
