Piers Morgan’s promise has everyone praying Olivier Giroud draws a blank against Barcelona

What's the difference between a promise and a threat?

It’s not that often you’ll see Arsenal fans actively rooting against one of their players, but this might just do it.

Gunners supporter and Olivier Giroud sceptic Piers Morgan has made a number of outlandish statements in his time.

But none are quite up there with his promise to do a naked conga around the Emirates Stadium if the Frenchman finds the net in the club’s Champions League meeting with Barcelona.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw with Southampton, Morgan told talkSPORT: “We have no clinical finishing prowess in front of goal. Giroud will get you 20, 22 goals a season. He is a specialist in scoring lots of goals against Newcastle.”

The TV presenter, whose other Nostradamus moments include suggesting Gary Neville would be a better managerial option for Arsenal than Arsene Wenger and Harry Kane wouldn’t get on the Arsenal bench, doesn’t have the best record when it comes to footballing predictions.

But this might just be one step too far, and fans are already making their thoughts known on the Giroud proposition.
