Pep Guardiola could replace Joe Hart with Manuel Neuer

Simon Lloyd

Poor old Joe Hart.

As if trying to keep his scalp dandruff free wasn’t stressful enough, the Manchester City stopper has endured a bit or a rough week.

Although his team bagged the League Cup on Sunday, he had to watch understudy Willy Caballero become the hero with a string of shoot-out saves.

Returning to action at Anfield on Wednesday, Hart was bamboozled by Roberto Firmino’s magic trick as he conceded three Liverpool goals.

And to cap it all off, Hart’s long term future at City appears far from certain.

According to The Mirror, soon-to-be City boss Pep Guardiola has set his sights on bringing Manuel Neuer with him from Bayern Munich as part of a ‘major squad overhaul’.

The Spaniard is said to want a goalkeeper that is good with his feet, and apparently this ‘could spell bad news for Hart’.

With Neuer said to be after a £300,000 a week new deal at Bayern (close to double the wages of the club’s current top earners), City may be a potential destination.

Given that Hart has been one of City’s most consistent performers in recent seasons, a move for the German number one seems a bit far-fetched to us. But who knows? Maybe Hart’s time between the sticks at the Etihad is coming to a sooner-than-expected end.
