The Republic of Ireland defender wore number seven in the World Cup qualifier against Georgia at the Aviva Stadium, where he started alongside Ciaran Clark in central defence. With the greatest of respect to Duffy, or any central defender, the number shouldn't be worn by a defender. Ever. In olden times, when teams lined out numbered 1-11, the right midfielder wore number seven. It's generally worn by an attacking player, and rarely, if ever, by a central defender. People are rightly flummoxed by Duffy's squad number. https://twitter.com/OCowzer/status/784081890626199556 https://twitter.com/TheKingOfPing/status/784084613576724480 https://twitter.com/CianTracey1/status/784086256682672128 https://twitter.com/NathanKelly_/status/784086407983820801 https://twitter.com/KoptimusPrime/status/784087943539548160 https://twitter.com/simonhfootball/status/784087138790932484 https://twitter.com/GerMc31/status/784086844761837569 https://twitter.com/DennyTwomey/status/784089036155748352 https://twitter.com/padraigamond21/status/784088340815642624 https://twitter.com/conor__mcgowan/status/784088186368688128 https://twitter.com/FranLally/status/784089946596532224
