Pele wades into Fifa corruption row

He wants the truth...

It has been months since several Fifa execs were arrested on corruption allegations, but the story shows no signs of disappearing.

Sepp Blatter, President of the governing body, has remained relatively quiet ever since resigning from his post and then saying that, actually, he might not be leaving after all.

But the silence might not last much longer, as one of the world’s best footballers has called on the Swiss to reveal everything he knows about corruption within the organisation.

FIFA Executive Committee Meeting

Pele has never been one to shy away from levelling allegations of corruption at those at the top of the game, notably speaking out against Brazilian official Ricardo Teixeira in the 90s.

And now he argues Blatter “deserves to be honest and say the truth of what he has seen.”

Speaking to Sky News, Pele admitted he does not know the specifics of what was going on in the lead-up to May’s high-profile arrests, but said: “I was invited to help FIFA, with Franz Beckenbauer, and we worked together for two or three years, so it is very sad when you see what has happened.”
