Paul Ince’s claim about James Milner is not a popular one

Beg your pardon...

Darragh Murphy

We all get caught up in the moment from time to time and say things we don’t exactly mean.

Let’s write Paul Ince’s claim on Wednesday night off as just that because we can’t, for the life of us, see how he legitimately believes that James Milner is a better footballer than Philippe Coutinho.

Don’t get us wrong, Milner is one of the most versatile, hardworking players walking the planet but would you really prefer to have the England international over Coutinho in your team?

Barcelona’s pursuit of the Brazilian midfield genius tells you everything you need to know about his talent and while Milner has proven invaluable for Reds manager Jurgen Klopp with his ability to play in several positions, we can’t exactly see Klopp turning down a £72 million bid for Milner.

During Liverpool’s defeat on penalties to Atletico Madrid in the Audi Cup final on Wednesday night, Ince was discussing his former side on ITV’s coverage of the game and he came out with one whopper of a bold statement.

“Forget Coutinho, James Milner is Liverpool’s best player,” Ince said. “He can play in every position.”

Reds supporters didn’t exactly agree with the player who once made 81 appearances for the club.
