Patrice Evra shows off gruesome injury picked up against Liverpool

It was a tough afternoon for the Frenchman

Not many footballers have catchphrases but Patrice Evra is an exception to that.

Evra made himself one of the must-follow players on Instagram with his regular shouts of “I love this game” on the social media app.

Well we bet he didn’t love Saturday’s game against Liverpool.

Not only was the West Ham left back on the wrong end of a 4-1 drubbing at Anfield but Evra also picked up a nasty gash in the defeat.

Evra had to get three stitches to close the wound but saw out the full 90 minutes for the Hammers.

It was Evra’s first Premier League game in four years and he was not exactly welcomed back to English football as Liverpool supporters targeted the former Manchester United defender with chants which accused Evra of fabricating a racial abuse claim against Luis Suarez in their infamous run-in in 2011.

Suarez received an eight-match suspension and was fined £40,000 after after an investigation concluded that he had racially abused Evra.

An FA statement at the time said: “It is alleged that Suarez used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Manchester United’s Patrice Evra contrary to FA rules.

“It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Patrice Evra.”

The group of Reds fans at Anfield on Saturday who chose to ridicule Evra for bringing a racial abuse case to light were rightly condemned on social media after the game.
