The club have since apologised.

Oxford United have been the subject of criticism after releasing a 'campus collection' clothing range with 'United 93', which is the same name as the flight that was hijacked on September, 11, 2001.

Fans instantly took to X to address the error that the club had made, with the collection since removed.

Oxford United have since released a club statement apologising.

"Oxford United would like to sincerely apologise for the recent launch of the Campus collection.

"The range was released without understanding of the historical context and associations.

"It should have not reached the point of sale and we take full responsibility for not undertaking proper due diligence.

"We have removed the collection with immediate effect and are reviewing our approval processes to ensure nothing like this happens again.

"Once again, we would like to put on record our sincere apologies for this error and for any offence caused."

An Oxford United fan responded to the statement: "Excellent statement, glad to see proactive and sensible communication from the club. Thank you for considering this properly."

The U's currently sit 6th in the League 1 table, with a game at home to Cambridge United tomorrow, as they look to climb back to the Championship.
