PSG only made 4th place...

With the 2026/27 football season now just days away from kick-off, everyone is back to questioning who of the dozens of elite clubs on the planet, should go into the new campaign as favourites to win it all.

Will it be PSG, who after back-to-back Champions League titles might be about to construct a new era of French dominance over the world's game?

Could it be Bayern Munich, with that dynamic trio of Michael Olise, Harry Kane, and Luis Díaz now another 12 months stronger?

Or should it be Premier League champions Arsenal, or one of the other English clubs, many of whom have invested heavily in their squads this summer?

It's always been hard to say who's really top of the tree until teams actually shape up against each other on the pitch, which made it impossible, until today, to properly predict who the best team on earth is.

Now, thanks to Opta's Supercomputer, a realistic ranking of every club has been unveiled.

The latest set of Opta Power Rankings is packed full of surprises, the least shocking of which sees newly promoted Coventry City (35th) almost ten places ahead of Italian giants AC Milan (44th.)

Otherwise, the biggest story is that Arsenal emerge at number one, while their UCL final victors PSG were only good enough for 4th.

Red Devils supporters will be keen to see Man United six places ahead of rivals Liverpool, while Chelsea barely made the top 20.

Opta explain that the Power Rankings work by giving an ability score, out of 100, to more than 13,500 men's domestic teams and over 2,500 women's clubs worldwide, with 100 representing the strongest side on the planet and zero the weakest.
