Thibaut Courtois involved in a serious “altercation” with Belgium manager

Time for Mignolet?

Pegged as dark horses to go the whole way, Belgium are reportedly coming apart at the seams.

The Republic of Ireland’s second opponents at Euro 2016 are not enjoying their time in France after being outclassed by Italy on Monday night.

An almost too-typical defensive masterclass from the Azzurri saw Belgium deprived of any clear-cut chances and anything but a victory over the Republic on Saturday will lead to panic stations for Belgian supporters.

And, according to reports on Friday, all is already not well in the Belgium camp.

According to BeIN Sports, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was involved in a serious “altercation” with manager Marc Wilmots following the 2-0 defeat earlier this week.

Courtois was publicly critical of his manager in the wake of the loss, saying that “tactically, technically and organisationally we came up short”.

The goalkeeper’s comments were not taken lightly by Wilmots who reportedly clashed with Courtois on the flight back to their Chateau du Haillan training base.

The top-ranked European team in the world will be expected to rebound from their opening loss but we could well see Liverpool shot-stopper Simon Mignolet step in for the dissenting Courtois for Belgium’s meeting with Ireland in Bordeaux.
