Some jokes write themselves
An Olympic pole vaulter has gone viral after clipping the bar with an unfortunate body part leading to failing his qualification attempt for the final in Paris.
The unfortunate situation happened to French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati during the Paris 2024 Olympic pole vault event in the Stade de France who managed to clear the bar, save for one protruding body part.
The 21-year-old successfully cleared the heights of 5.40m and 5.60m before taking on 5.70m to qualify for the final in front of his home crowd.
Sadly for the Frenchman, his little, or in this case large, chap had other ideas as his own manhood hooked onto the bar as he attempted to pass clear.
The disastrous situation was enough to send Ammirati’s medal hopes crashing down along with himself and the bar.
The incredible scenario went viral online leaving viewers and commentators alike speechless.
One user wrote on X: “Suffering from success.”
Another said: “he was a few inches short…. or a few inches long.”
One person wrote: “I’m not sure if we should feel bad for him or proud for him! Lol.”
Another account said: “Can’t think of a better way to be acknowledged for defeat!”
Meanwhile commentators quite literally did not know what to say.
One asked: “What happened here?”

While the other commentator replied awkwardly ‘On the way down…’ and trailed off as they came to the realisation of what had happened.
Despite Ammirati not qualifying for the final at his home games, the vaulter saw the funny side of the novel exit and sudden internet stardom.
The Frenchman said: “I’m just glad I can make people smile and laugh. And who knows, maybe this will be the start of something amazing!”
However, he was understandably still disappointed with his 15th place finish.
He said: “It’s a big disappointment. The conditions were good. It’s the first time I’ve started a competition without any stress. As I was a total outsider, I only had one goal: to play with the audience. I was almost there.”
Well there’s always the Los Angeles Olympics to come in 2028 for the French pole vaulter; he’ll just have to remember to do some pre-jump tucking next time
