Not a former Manchester United teammate in sight in Angel di Maria’s dream 5-a-side team

Has Ronaldo and Messi playing off him.

Another day, another starting place taken away from Wayne Rooney.

PSG’s Angel di Maria has boldly followed Gareth Southgate’s lead in denying the striker a place on his teamsheet.

It’s no surprise that Southgate’s decision to leave Rooney out of his starting XI for England’s World Cup qualifier in Slovenia will make more headlines than Di Maria’s very hypothetical omission from his dream five-a-side.

In fact, no former Manchester United teammate cut the mustard in the Argentine’s team as he brazenly gave himself the role as frontman in an otherwise pretty phenomenal side.

International colleague Javier Mascherano was given the shout as the sole defender while Italy legend Andrea Pirlo was chosen as the man to pull the strings in the centre of the park.

There can be no debate about the worthiness of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who Di Maria decided should play either side of him.

Poor ol’ Wazza can’t catch a break.
