Northern Ireland goal hero is a converted goalkeeper

Tom Victor

As far as footballing transformations go, this is a big one.

Back in 2007, Josh Magennis was a back-up goalkeeper at Cardiff City and was on the bench for the club’s 2-1 League Cup defeat to Liverpool.

Fast forward eight years and the 25-year-old is now a striker. But not only that, he’s a striker whose goal has helped his country book their place at Euro 2016.

The Kilmarnock frontman put his country 2-0 up in the qualifying victory over Greece that guaranteed qualification for Michael O’Neill’s men.

Now that’s what we call a turnaround.
