Neymar investigated by UEFA following comments on PSG’s defeat to Manchester United

Things have gone from bad to worse for Neymar after UEFA opened an investigation into his post-match comments from PSG’s defeat to Man United

The Brazilian labelled the officials as “four people who know nothing about football”, and went on to question the control the referee had over the game after United were awarded a contentious last-minute penalty.

In the aftermath of the Champions League tie, a visibly shocked Neymar took to Instagram to say “This is a disgrace, they put four people who know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR.”

“It’s just not possible!” he continued after Presnel Kimpembe had been adjudged to have handled the ball before Marcus Rashford’s winning spot-kick. “How is a guy going to hold his hand behind his back? Go f**k yourselves.”

UEFA today confirmed they are launching an investigation into Neymar’s comments via a statement on their website.

“A disciplinary investigation has been initiated based on Article 31(3) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations in connection with the statements made by Paris Saint Germain player Neymar Junior following the above-mentioned match,” it read.

“Information in respect of this investigation will be made available in due course.”

Should Neymar be charged with bringing the game into disrepute, he could miss the start of PSG’s Champions League campaign next season.

The French champions at least capped off a bleak week with a 4-0 win against Dijon – going 17 points clear at the top of Ligue 1.

They will be bitterly frustrated watching the Champions League quarter-final draw on Friday though, knowing their name won’t be in the pot.
