Newcastle respond on Twitter to word of Santiago Muñoz’s first start

Good Twitter, this

Newcastle United have confirmed they are keeping tabs on the progress of 18-year-old Mexican, Santiago Muñoz. Sort of.

In reality, it’s probably highly unlikely the club are actually considering a move for the youngster – despite the tweet they sent on Monday morning.

The teenager currently plies his trade for Santos Laguna, and a tweet from the Mexican side confirmed he was making his first Liga MX start for them away to Monterrey on Sunday night. The Premier League club quote-tweeted this, using only the eyes emoji…

Most reading this will probably already know where this is going. If not, allow us to bring you up to speed with a couple of lines on the greatest/worst (delete as appropriate) football film ever made…

Goal! was the first of a series of three (there might have been more, we doubt anyone bothered watching the third one) films detailing the journey of a young footballer who, having moved to Los Angeles from Mexico as a child, secures a move to Newcastle United.

The main character also just happens to be called Santiago Muñez – eerily similar to the name of Santos’ teenage debutant.

Muñoz’s side won the game by a single goal. Muñoz didn’t last the full 90 minutes, however. Almost certainly something to do with him not having his inhaler on him.
