Ndiaye to Man City for £65m as Everton’s deadline day unravels

A transfer collapse has opened the door for Manchester City

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Everton for Iliman Ndiaye, with the deal potentially rising to £65 million, according to BBC senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel.

The Senegal international is set to move for an initial £60 million, with another £5 million available through add-ons. The agreement comes just hours before the transfer window closes, after Ndiaye had looked set for a completely different move.

Tottenham had reached an agreement with Everton on Friday to sign the 26-year-old winger. That proposed transfer was linked to Richarlison going in the opposite direction, with Everton making a £35 million offer for the Brazil forward, who left Goodison Park for Spurs in 2022.

That deal ultimately fell through, opening the door for City to step in and secure Ndiaye in what has become one of the more dramatic moves of deadline day.

Why the first Ndiaye deal collapsed

The proposed swap hit a major obstacle when Richarlison failed to agree personal terms with Everton. On Monday, the Spurs forward addressed the situation himself on Instagram, making it clear that any decision about his future would ultimately be his. "After everything I've been through in the last few years, I've decided that never again will anyone decide my future for me," he wrote. "If they reach an agreement between Spurs and Everton, I will return to my beloved club. My intention was to go back to the place where I was very happy, yes, but the negotiations happened only in the way certain people wanted, and it will no longer be like that." He added: "Despite all this turmoil, I am under contract at Spurs and will remain at the club's disposal." With Richarlison immovable, Tottenham could not proceed for Ndiaye and City, who had been chasing an attacker elsewhere, walked straight into the gap.
