Mourinho thinks the only reason no-one is praising ‘Magic’ Lingard is because they hate him

Poor Jose

Poor Jose.

In Mourinho’s eye, the world and their dog is out to get him and drag him down. Everyone is against the Manchester United manager and all that he stands for. No one is willing to give him the benefit of the doubt or credit he deserves.

It is a siege mentality that has served him well over the years, but if anything it seems to have gone up a level in recent seasons. The beaming smile and accompanying dimples are a rare sight these days. Jose is consumed with unfair rejection.

This is evident in the fallout from United’s 4-0 thrashing of Dutch opponents Feyernoord on Thursday night. The Europa League victory was one of the best performances by the men in red this season, but Mourinho wasn’t entirely happy.

Despite general praise for the result and performance, the Old Trafford boss remains unconvinced that he and his charges are getting due credit. He used the reaction to Jesse Lingard’s fine goal as an example of this ‘double-standard’ against him.

“[Lingard’s] goal was amazing. If it was another team scoring that goal, another manager on the touchline, the goal would cross the planet.

“People would be speaking about magic. With a Mourinho team, with Man United, it’s just one goal.”

We can partly understand Jose’s psychology, and perhaps he has a point about the bad press he receives, but we’d perhaps suggest his comments are slightly coloured with a tiny bit of paranoia…
