Jose Mourinho launches scathing attack on Roma player after draw

Ah, never change, Jose…

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has launched a stinging attack on one of his own players, saying publicly that he needs to find a new club in January after an ‘unprofessional’ performance cost his team an important win.

Mourinho’s side had looked on course to take all three points in their Serie A match away to Sassuolo on Wednesday night after Tammy Abraham gave them the lead with ten minutes to go.

Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t hold on, with Andrea Pinamonti pulling the home side level five minutes later.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho tore into the unnamed player, blasting his unprofessional attitude.

Though Mourinho refused to say who it was, Corriere dello Sport have claimed it was Dutch full-back Rick Karsdorp, who came on as a substitute during the second half.

“It was a team that wanted to win against a tough opponent, I am sorry that the efforts of the team were betrayed by the attitude of one unprofessional player,” he told DAZN.

“An unprofessional attitude that is not fair to his teammates, that is what disappoints me. A point away from home is still not a negative result and I am happy with the general attitude of my squad.”

But Mourinho wasn’t done there. Pressed on which player he was referring to, Mourinho remained tight-lipped, adding:

“I won’t tell you. I had 16 players on the field tonight and I liked the attitude of 15 of them. In January, he needs to find himself another club.”

Roma would have moved up to third in the table had they won the game but are now in sixth, 12 points behind league-leaders Napoli.

Their home game against Torino on Sunday will be their final match of the year before the World Cup begins in Qatar.
