More bad news for Man City as Kompany picks up injury on international duty

Kevin Beirne

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has withdrawn from the Belgium squad after picking up a calf injury in training.

The Belgian defender was due to play against Italy on Friday night and Spain on Tuesday, but he will instead miss both friendlies for the number one ranked team in the world.

The news will no doubt anger City manager Manuel Pellegrini, who expressed his displeasure when Kompany lined out for Belgium in a Euro 2016 qualifier last month despite missing five matches for his club.

Kompany has struggled with a calf injury all season, and City fans will hope that this move is more precautionary than anything else.
