Millwall have released a statement condemning the chanting
Millwall have condemned the homophobic chanting that could be heard from sections of the crowd during their FA Cup defeat to South London rivals Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Palace’s Conor Gallagher, who is on-loan from Chelsea, was subject to several homophobic chants from home fans at the Den, whilst chants were also directed to the travelling fans in the crowd.
The Championship club have since released a statement stating that they have a “zero-tolerance policy” and will be investigating the chants heard.
As per Sky Sports, a spokesperson for the club said: “Millwall Football Club has a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of discrimination and will investigate any incident of alleged abuse accordingly.
“As is club policy, any individual found guilty of discriminatory abuse is issued with an immediate lifetime ban.”
Both managers also had their say on the matter as both of them highlighted the issue and hoped that action would be taken.
Rowett said: “I don’t think either of the clubs want to see any of those moments off the pitch but I am sure both will deal with those situations effectively.”
Meanwhile Vieira said: “We as a football club are against any kind of discrimination and of course this is not something we want to see on the field.”
The Official group for (LGBT+) supporters of Crystal Palace: Pride and Palace took to social media to express their disappointment at the chants heard.
