Arsenal look all but certain to miss out on the Premier League title

Mikel Arteta has insisted that this season hasn’t been a failure for Arsenal despite throwing their lead away at the top of the Premier League.

Arsenal have been leading the way at the top of the table for the majority of the season but have slipped to second after a series of poor results, and an excellent run of form from Manchester City, mean that the title looks like it’ll be heading back to the Etihad Stadium once again.

However, ahead of Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest, Arteta sent a defiant message to his team and said that they haven’t thrown away the title.

“We have shown this season, and we still two games to go, that we can be champions against probably the best team in the history of the Premier League, for ten months,” the Gunners boss said.

“And we are still there and we are not going to bottle that. That’s for sure.

“What happens next season depends a lot on what we do and how we evolve and how we start.

“But that prediction is very different to do today.”

Any slim hope of Arsenal winning the Premier League will come down to favours off other teams. They will have to hope that City don’t win any of their remaining three games against Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford while winning both of their final two games against Forest and Wolves.

Pep Guardiola’s side could even be crowned champions before they next kick a ball if Arsenal lose at the City Ground on Saturday night.
