Mesut Özil misses out on north London derby with ‘back injury’

Mesut Özil does not feature in the Arsenal squad for their clash with Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon, with Lacazette also dropping to the bench

It’s a recurring problem for him

Mesut Özil will play no part in the north London derby this afternoon, as he misses out after suffering a ‘back spasm’, according to Arsenal.

Unai Emery has opted to field three central defenders, as he looks to contain Spurs’ overlaps in the wide areas of the pitch.

In his 3-4-3 formation, Alexandre Lacazette has also dropped to the bench, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iowbi starting behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in attack.

Tottenham are also without a key player as Toby Alderweireld drops to the bench, presumably due to a lack of fitness, and is replaced by Juan Foyth.

Foyth has put in some impressive performances recently but his inexperience makes him a liability at the back, something Arsenal will look to exploit.

Moussa Sissoko keeps his place in midfield alongside Eric Dier, after playing a huge part in Spurs’ victory over Inter Milan midweek and Chelsea last weekend.
