Mesut Ozil linked with shock January move

That one's probably not going to happen

Mesut Ozil has been linked with an unlikely move away from Arsenal.

Turkish outlet Fotomac reports that Fehnerbahce are considering launching a surprise bid for Ozil in January.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery insists that there is no problem between him and his midfielder despite speculation that the pair’s relationship is not the best.

Fenerbahce are hoping to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Ozil’s future at the Emirates after reports of a training ground bust-up with Emery last month.

But it should be pointed out that it would take a considerable transfer fee for the Gunners to agree to part ways with Ozil, who has three years remaining on his £350,000-per-week contract, and Fenerbahce are not exactly financially stable at this moment in time.

The 29-year-old has strong links to Turkey so may be tempted to experience a spell in the land of his ancestors.

In the summer, Ozil came in for criticism over a controversial photograph with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan but the playmaker, who has since retired from international football with Germany due to alleged discrimination from the German FA, insists he has two hearts.

“Like many people, my ancestry traces back to more than one country. Whilst I grew up in Germany, my family background has its roots firmly based in Turkey,” Ozil said.

“I have two hearts, one German and one Turkish.”

Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Manchester United are also understood to be monitoring Ozil’s position.
