The ex-Manchester United winger scored the winner

Memphis Depay is definitely enjoying his football again.

For the first time since the 2014/15 Eredivisie campaign, Depay finds himself in double digits for a season and he finally appears to be recapturing the form which persuaded Manchester United to shell out £25 million for the then-PSV winger.

Things didn’t quite work out for Depay in England but he’s found his goalscoring boots again for Lyon and netted his 13th of the season on Sunday, when he headed home a late winner to complete his side’s comeback.

Lyon hadn’t led in the game until Depay came off the bench and looped home a header in the dying moments to drag them to within two points of third-placed Marseille. .

Marseille were 1-0 up and then 2-1 up but the Dutchman’s impact ultimately told and it was he who secured the 3-2 win for Bruno Genesio’s side.

The afternoon was not without its negatives for Depay, however, as he suffered a nasty cut which required stitches after the full-time whistle.

The 24-year-old’s confidence must have taken a significant hit during his time with United but Depay has finally put that stage of his career behind him.

“I know how it works in football,” Depay told Canal+. “I’m the one who gets all the punches. ‘Memphis is crazy’, ‘Memphis does this…’

“I cannot be anyone else but Memphis. I tried that, and I was not happy with myself. Back in Manchester, I was not happy with myself.

“How can I be a great football player when you’re not happy with yourself? I looked in the mirror and I was not happy, I was sad. Now I’m happy to be myself.”
