Man Utd fans love Bruno Fernandes’ sweary comment after Scott McTominay West Ham winner

JOE

Fernandes’ comment was picked up by a pitch-side microphone

It wasn’t exactly the most enthralling of contests, but in the end, Manchester United saw off West Ham to book their spot in the FA Cup quarter finals. After a dull, goalless 90 minutes at Old Trafford, the tie was settled by a Scott McTominay goal seven minutes into extra-time. The Scotland international was able to turn in a pass from Marcus Rashford from just inside the area.

Some observers noted how, despite McTominay doing so well to take the shot in his stride, Rashford’s pass might actually have been intended for Bruno Fernandes, who stood a couple of yards behind him.

Clearly, Fernandes shared this belief, judging by what many United fans heard him saying as he congratulated McTominay seconds later.

As United’s players celebrated the midfielder’s goal close to the touchline, Fernandes appears to say “Hey, the ball was for me M*therF***er,” as he approaches.

The comment can just about be picked out under the commentary in the video below (around the 24-second mark), but several alternative videos with slightly clearer audio have been circulated by United fans on Twitter and TikTok. We’d embed them, but we’re probably not allowed to.

Many United fans who have heard the comment found it hilarious, the joke highlighting how close the pair were.

United will discover who they face in the quarter-finals when the draw takes place on Thursday evening, just ahead of the final fifth-round tie of the week, between Barnsley and Chelsea.
