Mason Greenwood finish caps off lovely team move for Manchester United U23s

Manchester United playing actual football

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United team are not playing well at the moment. Their defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday was their third in the last five league games and their season, despite looking promising at a point, is shuddering to a halt.

Their struggles in the goals department have been such that many fans are calling for some of the club's younger players to be given a chance over struggling attackers like Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku. One youngster in particular is Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood has been impressing in United's youth teams for a number of seasons, so much so that he made an appearance during the last truly positive experience of the season: their shock Champions League victory away to Paris Saint-Germain.

Since then though he's been mostly absent from the first team bar an appearance here or there, but a recent goal he scored for the club's under 23s against Wolverhampton Wanderers should go some way to seeing him get a chance throughout United's final three league matches of the season.

Half an hour into the Red Devils' match with Wolves, United midfielder Tahith Chong received the ball on the left wing, before cutting in with a lovely touch and spreading the ball centrally to attacking midfielder Angel Gomes.

Gomes took one touch, before laying the ball right to the oncoming Greenwood. Now most strikers would've taken a touch and perhaps looked to cut inside, but Greenwood really isn't most strikers.

Instead, Greenwood opened his body and sidefooted a beautiful and deceptively difficult shot low and quick past the Wolves goalkeeper. It's a weird goal, one that needs to be watched a few times to truly appreciate it, and one that should be enough to convince Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give him a chance in the run-in.

Unfortunately, the goal wasn't enough for United to win the game, as Wolves came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
